16-year-old killed in Osceola County dirt bike crash, troopers say

Fatal crash happened on Marigold Avenue at Peabody Road

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A 16-year-old Kissimmee boy died on Sunday after crashing a dirt bike into a pole in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 7:45 p.m., the teen was traveling north in the southbound lane on Marigold Avenue just south of Peabody Road when, according to a crash report, the teen swerved left to avoid colliding with a Chevrolet Traverse and struck a metal pole.

Troopers said the impact caused the rider and an 18-year-old male passenger from Kissimmee to fall off the dirt bike. The 16-year-old landed sideways and into the direct path of the SUV, the FHP said.

The 16-year-old was taken to Poinciana Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to troopers.

The 18-year-old was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, the FHP said.

The driver and two passengers of the SUV remained at the scene.

Both riders were not wearing a helmet, the crash report states.

The crash remains under investigation.
