Man on scooter killed in Orange County crash, troopers say

Crash happened in area of Palmetto Avenue and Sandscove Court

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 44-year-old Winter Park man on a scooter died after being struck by a vehicle in Orange County on Saturday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened in the area of Palmetto Avenue and Sandscove Court around 6:06 p.m.

According to a crash report, a Ford Expedition – being driven by a 59-year-old Orlando man – was traveling south on Palmetto Avnnue, South of Sandscove Court in the outside lane.

Troopers said the scooter was traveling north in the southbound bicycle lane of Palmetto Avenue, south of Sandscove Court.

According to the report, as the SUV was making right turn to travel onto a private driveway, the front of the Expedition collided with the scooter.

The man on the scooter was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, the FHP said.

The SUV’s driver was not injured and remained at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
