Driver transported as trauma alert after pickup submerges in Winter Garden pond

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – A driver was sent to the hospital as a trauma alert Wednesday after their pickup truck plowed through a fence and into a pond in Winter Garden.

According to Winter Garden police, they responded to crash around 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of 9th Street and State Road 50.

Police said a vehicle sideswiped the pickup, then ran the truck off of the road. The pickup went through a fence and into a pond, where it become completely submerged, officials said.

Capt. Scott Allen, of the Winter Garden Police Department, said that one of his officers swam to the vehicle and was able to get a window open but could not get the driver out.

According to Allen, the dive team with the Orange County Fire Department responded and was able to pull the driver out.

The pickup truck driver was taken to the hospital with potential life-threatening injuries, officials said.
