OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A woman is dead and a 9-year-old girl is among two others who were injured when their car was struck Friday evening by an SUV on the Turnpike in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5:53 p.m. in the northbound lanes at mile marker 226, north of the Canoe Creek Service Plaza, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the 9-year-old girl and a 68-year-old woman were passengers in a sedan being driven north by a 40-year-old woman, all of Miami. They were traveling in the outside lane and were wearing seat belts, troopers said.

An SUV being driven north by a 19-year-old Orlando woman in the inside lane traveled into the inside shoulder and overcorrected right, striking the left side of the sedan, the report states.

The impact caused the sedan to run off the roadway onto the right shoulder and strike a tree, troopers said.

The 40-year-old Miami woman suffered serious injuries, the 9-year-old Miami girl suffered critical injuries and the 68-year-old Miami woman was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to FHP.

The 19-year-old Orlando woman was not injured in the crash, troopers said.
