VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A crash involving five vehicles early Wednesday created heavy delays on Interstate 4 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened around 4:50 a.m. in the westbound lanes near mile marker 112 near Saxon Boulevard.
The FHP said the crash involved two semitrucks and three vehicles, blocking the outside lane. Around 11:30 a.m., the vehicles were cleared from the shoulder and the outside lane reopened.
Four people were taken to the hospital, a 38-year-old Lake Alfred man and 46-year-old Daytona Beach woman with serious injuries and a 32-year-old Daytona Beach man and 44-year-old New Smyrna Beach man with minor injuries.
According to FHP, a semitruck failed to stop for traffic and hit the back of a vehicle, sending it into the shoulder. The semitruck then struck another semi and two other vehicles.
This crash happened hours after another wreck on I-4 at Enterprise Road.
According to the FHP, this crash happened around 1:55 a.m. and involved a semitruck and pickup. The semitruck overturned, and hit the overpass near mile marker 109, troopers said, but there was no damage to the overpass.
Both drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is ongoing.
