45-year-old man killed in Lake County crash, troopers say

Crash happened on CR-42 at intersection of Penley Lane in Altoona

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A 45-year-old Umatilla man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened on County Road 42 at the intersection of Penley Lane in Altoona around 3:04 p.m.

According to a crash report, a Honda Accord was traveling west on County Road 42, approaching Penley Lane. At the same time, a GMC Sierra was traveling east on County Road 42, approaching Penley Lane.

Troopers said the Accord traveled into the eastbound lane into the direct path of the pickup truck. As a result, the front left of the Accord collided with the front left of the truck.

The driver and passenger of the Accord were taken to Waterman Hospital, according to the FHP. The driver, identified as a 42-year-old Umatilla woman, suffered serious injuries.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the FHP.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as a 54-year-old Altoona man, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
