COCOA, Fla. – Three people were killed and two others were injured Friday morning when a Mercedes-Benz that was fleeing from troopers crashed into two vehicles parked on the shoulder of an Interstate 95 exit ramp in Brevard County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The triple-fatal wreck happened around 8:30 a.m. on the I-95 north exit ramp to King Street near Cocoa.

The FHP said a 41-year-old Sebastian man was driving a 2015 Mercedes with three passengers — two women and a man — north on I-95 and was “actively fleeing from FHP and traveling above the posted speed limit.”

The Mercedes exited the interstate and struck a 2005 Ford F-650 tow truck and a 2011 Ford F-750 tow truck, both of which were unoccupied and parked on the shoulder of the ramp, troopers said.

A 39-year-old Palm Bay man, however, was underneath one of the tow trucks while hooking it up to the other one, according to an FHP crash report.

The three passengers of the Mercedes were pronounced dead at the scene, the crash report stated.

The driver of the Mercedes and the Palm Bay man were airlifted to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center, troopers said.

The Sebastian man suffered critical injuries, while the Palm Bay man was seriously injured, according to the FHP.

No other details, including information about the FHP pursuit, have been released.
