Trooper Steve on Patrol: Salvation Army’s mission in Central Florida never stops

Organization serves families facing growing needs beyond the holidays

ORLANDO, Fla. – On today’s Trooper Steve on Patrol, I got the opportunity to spend some time with an organization many of us recognize, but honestly may not think about enough throughout the year — The Salvation Army.

For a lot of people, the first thing that comes to mind is the red kettles during the holidays or disaster relief after a hurricane. But here in Central Florida, their mission never really slows down. Every single day, they’re helping families find food, shelter, support, and stability during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

This week, I visited their main Central Florida location and sat down with Area Commander Major Roger Glick to talk about the growing challenges they’re seeing right here in our community. And according to Major Glick, the need is increasing.

Whether it’s rising housing costs, food insecurity, or families simply trying to make ends meet, more people are turning to organizations like The Salvation Army for help. The difficult part? The demand is growing faster than the resources available.

That’s why they’re hosting special events this week aimed at raising awareness and encouraging community support. From volunteering opportunities to donations, they’re hoping Central Floridians will step up and help continue the work that quietly changes lives every single day.

One thing that stood out to me during our conversation was how simple acts of kindness can completely change someone’s direction. Sometimes it’s a warm meal. Sometimes it’s a temporary shelter. Sometimes it’s just someone willing to listen.

Here in Central Florida, we’re fortunate to have organizations willing to do that work day in and day out, even when nobody’s watching.

I hope you’ll join me on Trooper Steve on Patrol as we take a closer look at how The Salvation Army is helping our neighbors and how all of us can play a small role in making a big difference.
