Slow left lane driving is not just annoying, it's actually against the law.
The left lane is to be used for passing only and when slow drivers hit the left lane and refuse to get over it's impeding traffic flow and causes back ups. A slow left lane driver can quickly create a road rage situation.
"It does cause people to drive with their emotions, get more anxiety and therefore take more risks and actually be more aggressive to that person by tailgating them and by cutting around them," said Kim Montes, Public Affairs officer for FHP.
The same rule applies on secondary roadway although police say most of the issues that they see are on highways.
"Definitely on a limited access highway this law is in place. Where if you're on a limited access highway which is I-4, 408 anything basically with a ramp," said Montes. "The law requires you to be in the right lane unless you're passing or unless congestion precludes everybody from being in both lanes."
Police said you can be ticketed for slow driving in the passing lane. It's a minimum $60 fine and three points on your license.
"So for drivers who we appreciate they want to do the speed limit and we encourage everybody to do the speed limit. Get in that right lane unless you're passing," said Montes.
