Storms dump rain on Central Florida

Severe weather knocked down a tree on Neely Street in Orlando.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Storms brought heavy rain to Central Florida on Wednesday, prompting weather warnings across the region.

A severe thunderstorm watch expired earlier this evening for Brevard, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. Flagler, Lake, Marion, Sumer and Volusia counties were under a tornado watch earlier.

There were no immediate reports of serious damage, but power outages were reported in Lake, Marion and Sumter counties.

Storm damage was reported in Winter Park, Baldwin Park and Oviedo. A large uprooted tree in Oviedo on Neely Street took the grass with it.

"We're pinpointing the risk for strong to severe storms," News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said. 

The rain comes ahead of a front that will move into the region Thursday.

"The main threat will be strong winds greater than 50 to 60 mph, as well as hail, lightning and heavy rain on the roadways," Bridges said.

The high in Orlando will hit 84, five degrees below the average for this time of year.

"Rain chances will be up to 80 percent off and on through the evening," Bridges said. "We'll see morning rain and storms Thursday just along the front. It will move out by the early afternoon."

The high will be in the mid-80s on Thursday.

Friday's high will be in the upper 80s.

"We will be dry Friday through Sunday," Bridges said. "Expect a slight chance of rain for Memorial Day, with highs in the low to mid-90s.
