Tropical depression could form in Atlantic next week

Tropical wave located between Cabo Verde Islands, the Lesser Antilles

ORLANDO, Fla. – A tropical wave could develop into a tropical depression as early as next week, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The wave is located midway between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles.

The NHC said environmental conditions are expected to be favorable for further development over the next few days and it could become a tropical depression early next week.

The wave is moving west-northwest across the tropical Atlantic.

This wave should curve before impacting the northeast Caribbean and is not a threat to the U.S. at this time.

It has a 20% chance of development through the next 48 hours and a 60% chance of development through the next seven days.

The NHC is also highlighting two areas of disturbed weather in the Atlantic. Neither are expected to develop, however heavy rain is anticipated along the southeast coast of the U.S. and across parts of Central America, respectively.

The next named storm of the 2023 hurricane season is Emily. Hurricane season runs through November.
