Cold air, clear skies to end 2023 in Central Florida

Fireworks smoke could cause patchy morning fog

ORLANDO, Fla. – After starting off with the coldest temperatures of the season Sunday morning, temperatures will be slowly warming into the mid 60s by the afternoon.

Looks like Central Florida will be ending 2023 on a much cooler and calmer note. Mainly clear skies will persist as we get a break from the stream of high clouds we’ve seen for the past few days. A light northwest breeze will keep highs below normal for this time of the year with another drop in temperatures later in the evening.

For tonight, grab the jackets if you’re planning on being out to ring in the new year! Calm winds and clear skies will allow for another quick temperature drop into the upper 40s north of Orlando and to the low 50s further south by midnight. Mixing into the lingering fireworks smoke could be some patchy fog early into the morning hours of 2024.

A new weak front will be approaching the area by New Year’s Day, which will bring a few extra clouds in place through the afternoon and early evening while reinforcing temperatures into the 60s for the first few days of the year.

A better chance of rain returns by late Wednesday and into early Thursday as a new front arrives. Rain and storm coverage will increase to 40-50%. Storm threats include lightning, gusty winds and locally heavy downpours with drier conditions setting up later in the week.

Ahead of the front on Wednesday, highs will be near 70 degrees before cooling down Thursday and Friday back into the mid 60s.
