ORLANDO, Fla. – A strong cold front is expected to move through Central Florida on Monday, prompting News 6 to declare an Inconvenient Weather Day due to the likelihood of thunderstorms, some of which could be strong, later in the afternoon.
Ahead of the front, a few light showers will be around through the morning.
As the front gets closer, expect another round of rain and thunderstorms to develop in the early afternoon.
A few storms could become severe with damaging wind and hail. The best chance of strong storms will be between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Storms gradually clear out through Monday evening.
Then, the coldest air in weeks will settle in Tuesday and Wednesday.
Most of Central Florida will wake up in the 40s and low 50s Tuesday morning. Highs on Tuesday will be in the 60s.
It will be even colder Wednesday morning, with temperatures starting out in the mid-to upper 40s. Temperatures could dip into the upper 30s north of Orlando.
In Flagler County, The Sheltering Tree is opening its cold weather shelter Tuesday night at the Rock Transformation Center on North State Street for anyone who needs a warm place to stay. The shelter will open at 5 p.m. and close Wednesday at 8 a.m.
The county will provide bus transportation for people who need it. Here is the bus schedule:
East side of the county
- Dollar General at Publix Town Center on Market Avenue (leads to Dollar General), 3:30 p.m.
- McDonald’s at Old Kings Road South and State Road 100 at the dirt road on the east side, 4 p.m.
- Dollar Tree behind Carrabba’s in the Dollar Tree Parking lot, 4:30 p.m.
- Palm Coast Main Branch Library, northwest corner of Palm Coast Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway, 4:45 p.m.
West side of the county
- Dollar General at County Road 305 and Canal Avenue in Daytona North, 4 p.m.
- Bunnell Free Clinic, 703 Moody Boulevard, 4:30 p.m.
- First United Methodist Church in Bunnell, 205 N. Pine Street, 4:30 p.m. (listed as the same pick-up time because of the close proximity)
