2 areas monitored for possible tropical development

Saharan dust makes way to Central Florida

Wednesday Morning Tropical Update

ORLANDO, Fla. – The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a couple of disturbances in the tropics.

We are tracking two juicy tropical waves in the tropics, one in the Caribbean and the other the eastern tropical Atlantic.

The disturbance in the western Caribbean/southwestern Gulf of Mexico is moving west at 25 mph. Chances for development in the next seven days is 20%.

The other area is in the eastern Atlantic a few hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. The NHC said slow development is possible later this week into early next week while it moves west. There is a 30% chance of development in the next seven days.

As of now, no big concerns for Florida.

Along with those areas, we are also tracking plenty of Saharan dust across the tropics. This layer, which is normal this time of the year, tends to suppress big time tropical development.

By late weekend and into early next week, long range models are showing some of that dust to arrive into Central Florida, making our sunrise and sunsets more vibrant while also slightly reducing our air quality.
