Campos has been promoted to the position of Chief Meteorologist following the retirement of Tom Sorrells, who signed off for the last time on June 28.

“It is no secret that I have big shoes to fill following Tom,” Campos said. “I can’t tell you how honored and humbled I am that News 6 and the viewers of our community trust me to lead our weather team going forward.”

Campos first joined WKMG-TV in 2015 and has filled multiple roles at the station, including anchor, co-host of the Florida Foodie podcast and most recently as morning meteorologist.

Central Floridians will still be able to wake up with Campos’ smiling face and expert weather coverage as she will remain a fixture of the News 6 morning newscast.

“It is such an honor to be able to serve Central Florida as the Pinpoint Accurate Weather Team’s Chief Meteorologist,” Candace said. “Our team is strong, experienced and dedicated. I am privileged to be able to lead such a talented group of meteorologists in our efforts to keep the people of Central Florida safe.”

As for the evening newscasts, Julie Broughton will return to the weather department full-time. She will provide weather coverage from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Then, Jonathan Kegges will step in for the 6, 6:30 and 11 p.m. broadcasts.
