ORLANDO, Fla. – A large Atlantic ridge of high pressure remains anchored across Central Florida Friday, which will allow for another day for scattered sea breeze driven storms to develop through the afternoon.

The east coast sea breeze is forecast to develop scattered showers in the early afternoon and turn more widespread as sea breezes collide further inland. Expect a 40-50% chance of early afternoon rain along the coast, followed by a 50-60% chance for storms into the evening from I-4 to I-75.

With slightly drier air in the upper levels, a few stronger storms will have the potential to develop producing lightning and gusty winds. Slower storms producing heavy downpours could rack up 1-3 inches of accumulated rain.

In the meantime, the temperatures will be in the mid-90s inland to the low 90s along the coast, with heat indices reaching 103-107 degrees.

WEEKEND

Heading into the weekend, the forecast gets a bit tricky as we will have the combination of Saharan dust mixed in with a weak tropical wave pushing in from the Atlantic toward Central Florida.

As of the latest forecast models, expect scattered to numerous showers and storms, with coverage at 60% both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Once again, a few strong storms will be possible within this activity.

Areas that don’t get much rain will certainly feel the heat and humidity, with heat indices getting closer to heat advisory status through the weekend as “feels like” temperatures reach 108-109 degrees.
