Scattered storms with heavy rain and more heat. Your Central Florida forecast

Rain chances increase through end of week

ORLANDO, Fla. – The active summertime setup continues for Central Florida as afternoon showers and storms are expected each afternoon and into the early evening.

WEDNESDAY:

Storms will begin to develop along the east coast sea breeze early afternoon with the activity pushing inland further into the day. Rain coverage sits at 40-50% with the primary concern being lightning and gusty winds.

Along with the summer storms, the summer heat will be relentless. Peak heat indices continue to climb through the week, reaching values up to 102-106 degrees inland with actual temperatures topping out in the mid 90s.

LATE WEEK:

By the end of the week additional moisture will filter in from a boundary to our north and a tropical wave to our south, increasing rain chances back to 50-60% through the afternoon hours.

The extra moisture in the air will be felt as peak feels like temperatures climb even further to 108-110 through the weekend. Heat advisories could be issued by then.

WEEKEND:

All eyes remain on the tropics for the weekend as we continue to monitor the progress of a broad tropical wave approaching the Lesser Antilles. As of Wednesday morning, plenty of uncertainty remains in terms of its track and intensity.

The reason for this uncertainty is due to the broad tropical wave remaining very much disorganized as it battles Saharan dust on its northern end. Since there is no dominant center of circulation, models don’t have a concise starting point to work with.

The National Hurricane Center is giving it a 60% chance of development once it approaches the eastern Bahamas late this week.

Locally our storm potential for the weekend will be dependent on the path of this tropical system. If the wave stays far enough in the Atlantic, we could see a typical weekend. If the path shifts further west toward the Gulf, a better shot for gusty squalls and periods of tropical downpours will be possible.
