ORLANDO, Fla. – Tropical Storm Gordon on Friday officially formed in the Atlantic, making it the seventh named storm of the hurricane season.
Gordon is located 990 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands with maximum sustained winds at 40 mph. Slight strengthening is expected today before a weakening trend begins on Saturday,
It is forecast to remain over open water for several days.
The National Hurricane Center is also monitoring a non-tropical area near the southeastern U.S. coastline, which has a 40% chance of development.
The next name on the list is Helene.
Hurricane season runs through November.
