Stalled front leads to more scattered storms in Central Florida. Here’s when things change

Rain chances remain high through Thursday

ORLANDO, Fla. – A weak stalled front over Central Florida will keep the area unsettled for a few more days with rain chances remaining elevated Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

Wednesday & Thursday

Scattered showers and storms (60-70%) are forecast to develop by the afternoon and into the evening as storms move from I-4 toward the east coast.

RAIN CHANCES TODAY

The main hazards with slow-moving storms will be frequent lighting, heavy rainfall (1-3 inches) and wind gusts up to 40 mph.

Highs through the day will rebound back into the upper 80s to low 90s with heat indices between 98-105 degrees.

Friday & Saturday

A ridge of high pressure is forecast to take over for a short stint on Friday and Saturday, giving us a small break from the widespread rain. Coverage (40-50%) is still there for some afternoon activity with highs staying close to normal in the upper 80s.

Weekend-next week

Plenty of uncertainty at this point of the forecast as global models remain in disagreement when it comes to an area in the Gulf of Mexico.

The National Hurricane Center continues to highlight the area with a moderate chance of tropical development in the next seven days as it moves into the eastern Gulf by the weekend.

Regardless of what the area develops into, higher-than-normal rain and storm chances return by Sunday and into early next week.

MOISTURE FROM GULF

Rainfall models show some areas racking up more than 5 inches of rain over the next seven days.

RAIN TOTALS NEXT 7 DAYS

On the other side of the coast, Hurricane Kirk is expected to become the third major hurricane of the season by the end of the week.

Although forecasts agree that it will remain out to sea more than a thousand miles from the east coast of Florida, the powerful storm could bring in large swells for the weekend.

KIRK SWELLS

We will continue to monitor the progress of the area in the Gulf of Mexico over the next several days. Stay tuned to News6 and ClickOrlando.com for the latest.
