ORLANDO, Fla. – The chances of tropical development in the Caribbean Sea are going up.
The National Hurricane Center upped the chances of development to 50% in the next seven days in the southwestern Caribbean.
According to the NHC, an area of low pressure could form by the end of the week. Gradual development is possible afterward and a tropical depression could form over the weekend or early next week as the system heads generally north or northwest.
Its exact path and intensity remains uncertain.
Models are currently suggesting a westward trajectory, which could see the system moving either into the Gulf of Mexico or toward the Yucatan Peninsula by next week.
This remains an area that needs to be closely watched with minimal worry at this point.
Hurricane season runs through the end of November.
