ORLANDO, Fla. – The National Hurricane Center has designated Potential Tropical Cyclone 18 in the south-central Caribbean.
As of 4 p.m. Sunday, the National Hurricane Center designated a disturbance in the Caribbean, Invest 97L, as Potential Tropical Cyclone 18.
Meteorologically, the storm is not yet tropical, however, it is expected to become one soon and impact land. The NHC uses this designation to issue watches and warnings.
The storm is expected to move near Jamaica and strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall in Cuba. At this time, the center of the storm is expected to stay away from Central Florida, however, rain chances could increase mid-to-late week as the storm moves through the Gulf of Mexico.
