As for high-rise coastal bridges, Volusia County enacts closures for vehicular traffic when determined necessary by the emergency management director in coordination with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement under the following conditions:

  • Winds sustained at 39 mph
  • When visible damage to the bridge or flooding of the approaches has occurred
  • To conduct damage assessments

Volusia County officials will continue to closely monitor weather forecasts and assess potential impacts on bridge safety.

An evacuation order is in effect for several parts of Volusia County. Milton is to make landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast late Wednesday to early Thursday morning.
