VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Officials in Volusia County are asking residents and visitors to stay off of the beach due to debris from Hurricane Milton.

According to a news release, the coastline remains a safety threat due to debris on the beach and in the water.

In addition to the debris, officials warn about high waves and dangerous rip currents that “can pull under the strongest of swimmers.”

According to the release, Volusia County’s Coastal Division hasn’t been able to start removing the debris on the beaches due to high tides.

However, officials said that if you choose to walk on the beach, wear shoes to prevent foot injuries. Residents and visitors should not cross barricades, fences, or gates for closed areas.

Officials also warned that some coastal structures like vehicle accesses and walkways have been compromised by the impacts of Hurricane Milton and may not be safe.

“Even though a structure may exhibit no visual signs of damage, there may be foundational or other underlying problems that may lead to a collapse,” the release stated.

Officials said Beach Safety will be flying the red flag all weekend due to very hazardous rip current conditions.
