Tornadoes touch down, warnings issued across Central Florida

Region is on Hurricane Irma's 'dirty side'

Damage on Sept. 10, 2017 after an EF 0 tornado touched down in Palm Bay destroying 6 mobile homes.

CENTRAL FLORIDA – Central Florida is to the right of Hurricane Irma, also known as the tornado-prone "dirty side" of the storm. 

Reports of strong winds and possible tornadoes have spread across Central Florida since Sunday morning and watches and warnings have been issued in multiple areas.

A tornado was sighted at 9:15 p.m. Sunday near Ormond Beach Fire Department Station 93, Volusia County dispatch told News 6.

The tornado damaged structures near Kenilworth Avenue and Yonge Street, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

In Palm Bay, six mobile homes were destroyed Sunday morning when a tornado touched down on Indian River Drive. 

A "wind event" in Umatilla before 8 p.m. Sunday left Umatilla Inn severely damaged and Umatilla Elementary, which is serving as a shelter, with minor non-structural damage.

Brevard County Emergency Operations spokesman said that a possible tornado touched down on Kiblee Street in Mims. The National Weather Service will analyze photos of the and determine whether or not it was a tornado.

Below is a list tornado watches and warnings in the area. The list will be updated as new watches are issued and old ones expire.

Tornado watch in effect until 11 a.m. Monday that includes Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, Putnam, St. Johns, Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Marion, Suwanee, Union counties in Florida and Camden, Charlton and Glynn counties in southeast Georgia. Cities included are Amelia City, Anastasia, Anthony, Arlington, Bakersville, Bellair, Belmont, Bostwick, Burbank, Carraway, Columbia, Country Club Estate, Dock Junction, Doctors Inlet, Dover Bluff, Dungeness, Durbin, Fernandina Beach, Folkston, Fruit Cove, Gainesville, Gainesville Airport, Glynn Haven, Hilliard, Homeland, Houston, Jacksonville, Jasper, Jekyll Island, Jennings, Kings Ferry, Kingsland, Lake Butler, Lake City, Lakeside, Live Oak, Lulu, Macclenny, Mcalpin, Middleburg, New River, Newburn, Newnans Lake, Normandy, Ocala, Ocala Airport, Oceanway, Oleno State Park, Olustee, Orange Park, Ortega, Palatka, Palm Coast, Palm Valley, Ponte Vedra Beach, Race Pond, Ratliff, Riverside, San Marco, Sea Island, St. George, St. Simons, Starke, Stephen Foster State Park, Suwannee Springs, Switzerland, Thalmann, Trenton,Watertown, Weirsdale, West Lake, White Springs, Winokur and Yulee.

Tornado watch in effect until 2 a.m. Monday for part of Volusia County including the cities of Allandale, Daytona Beach, Deltona, Farmton, Lake Ashby, Osteen and Port Orange. 

Tornado watch in effect until midnight for Lake, Orange, Seminole and Volusia counties including the cities of Allandale, Altamonte Springs, Apopka, Bithlo, Casselberry, Conway, Daytona Beach, Deltona, Emeralda, Eustis, Farmton, Horizon West, Lady Lake, Lake Ashby, Lake Dora, Leesburg, Mount Dora, Mullet Lake Park, Osteen, Oviedo, Port Orange, Sanford, Tavares, Wekiva Springs and Winter Springs.
