DELTONA, Fla. – A husband and his wife were shot Thursday in a Volusia County home, deputies said.
The shooting was reported in the 1400 block of Hayward Avenue in Deltona at 2:38 p.m.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said two males came through the sliding glass door and asked the woman, "Where's Javier?" The woman said she told them she doesn't know anyone named Javier, and said they then shot her in the arm.
The men then approached the husband as he was getting out of the shower and asked him the same question, officials said. The men shot the husband in the leg then left the home, possibly in a car, deputies said.
Both victims were taken to an area hospital in stable condition. The couple's children were at school when the shooting happened.
Chitwood said it's possible that the couple was targeted.
"It’s not clear yet whether the men forced their way inside. Detectives are still trying to determine why the shootings occurred, but the investigation so far indicates the break-in was targeted and not random," officials from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.
No other details have been released.
