Woman In Hoveround Wheelchair Hit By Bus

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A DeLand woman in a Hoveround electric wheelchair was hit by a bus in Volusia County Tuesday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Martha Delgado, 66, was attempting to cross U.S. 92 near Kepler Road around 12:25 p.m. in her electric wheelchair, but was not at a crosswalk or intersection, when she pulled into the direct path of a bus, FHP said.

Bus driver Freddie Carter, 54, was unable to stop the bus and hit Delgado, FHP said.

Delgado was hospitalized with serious injuries, and none of the bus passengers were hurt, FHP said.
