ORLANDO, Fla. – The long-awaited $1.6 billion Wekiva Parkway deal has been approved by a regional transportation board.
MetroPlan Orlando, which is in charge of the policies in Central Florida, approved the deal Tuesday afternoon.

The 25-mile parkway would run through Seminole, Orange and Osceola counties.
City leaders said the next step is for the state and Orlando Orange County Expressway Authority to allot funding for the project.
Construction could start on the west-end of the project near Apopka in fall 2012, officials said.
If the project stays on track, it's slated to be complete in 2021.
