ORLANDO, Fla. – A 24-year-old woman was killed and a 30-year-old man was critically injured when a drunken driver rear-ended their vehicle at a red light in Orlando, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Giselle Batista, of Orlando, was killed in the crash, which happened around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 535 and World Center Drive. Benjamin Frias, of Orlando, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with critical injuries, troopers said.
Alejandro Correa, 20, of Orlando, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, was arrested on DUI manslaughter charges and was taken to the Orange County Jail.
According to the FHP, a silver Toyota Corolla, driven by Frias, was stopped for a red light when it was hit from behind by a Dodge Charger driven by Correa.
The impact sent the Toyota more than 120 feet across the intersection and into a ditch, said troopers.
Batista was pronounced dead by the medical examiner.
Correa was arrested after being released from the hospital.
The crash closed the intersection for several hours but later reopened.
