West Melbourne mother had sexual relationship with daughter's friend, police say

Jennifer Clevenger arrested on lewd or lascivious battery, other charges

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. – West Melbourne police say a 43-year-old married woman admitted that she had a sexual relationship with her daughter's teenage friend for about a year.

Local 6 News partner Florida Today reports that following a complaint, West Melbourne police interviewed Jennifer Gale Clevenger, who said her relationship with the boy began around Christmas 2012, according to police records. Though she was unaware of the exact dates of their encounters, she said she knew the boy was either 14 or 15 years old, and described to police how they engaged in sexual acts several times.

Police contacted the boy, who initially wouldn't say if their relationship was sexual, but said "it" ended in April after Clevenger's daughter found out. By analyzing phone records, investigators found Clevenger and the boy exchanged about 130 text messages in April.

When police met with the boy again earlier this month, he described several sexual encounters. He said Clevenger bought him alcohol about nine times, once while they were staying in the Orlando Villa Hotel. He said she also provided him a bong, knowing he smokes marijuana.

West Melbourne police Lt. Richard Cordeau said the sexual encounters between Clevenger and the boy occurred in Clevenger's vehicle, and at several friends' houses in the neighborhood.

Clevenger was arrested on Monday and faces five felony charges of lewd or lascivious battery on a victim age 12 to 16, and nine misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Cordeau said that if convicted, a second-degree felony carries prison term up to 15 years.
