SAVANNAH, Ga. – Wildlife officers from Florida and Georgia teamed up to rescued a whale entangled in a 280-foot fishing line.
The whale was spotted thrashing around earlier in the week. On Thursday, crews sailed off the coast of Georgia and found the 4-year-old male.
In video released by Georgia wildlife officers, the teams decide to use a grappling hook to cut the fishing line. One of the officers threw the hook over and past the whale, then began dragging it back until it grabbed the fishing line and cut it.
Part of the fishing line had to be left on the whale. Crews are hoping the line slides off the whale because they were able to cut it.
