CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Two people are recovering in the hospital after they were attacked by a crocodile Sunday in Coral Gables.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the victims were identified as Alejandro Jimenez, 26, and 23-year-old Lisset Rendon.
Police said the man and woman entered a canal near a friend's house in the 1300 block of Lugo Avenue about 2:30 p.m. when the crocodile bit Jimenez's arm, shoulder and back. He was then able to free himself.
The victims were taken to South Miami Hospital. The extent of Rendon's injuries was not released.
Police said the crocodile was 8 to 9 feet long. Police said officers will pass out flyers to residents nearby to warn them about the crocodile.
Traps have also been placed in the water to catch the large reptile, but so far it has not been caught.
The FWC is investigating.
