Woman found dead in Eustis, police say

Eustis police investigate homicide after woman found in vacant lot

EUSTIS, Fla. – Police are investigating after a woman was found dead in a vacant lot in Eustis.

The investigation began after 5:22 p.m. Thursday at West Doane Avenue, according to Eustis police.

Eustis police identified the woman as Shelly A. Arnold, 24. Police said her last known address was on Wolfbranch Road in Sorrento

Arnold was found at the end of the street in a vacant lot, police said.

Eustis police said the autopsy was completed, but further forensic and laboratory analysis is required before the Medical Examiner can issue an opinion regarding the cause and manner of death. The trauma to Arnold's body appeared to be postmortem, police said.

Lee Sanders, who lives across the street from the lot, said he asked his niece to investigate when he saw the body.

"She went over there and looked and said 'Uncle, I think that's a body,'" said Sanders. "If somebody would have murdered that lady outside, I would have heard something.

No other details about the investigation were available.

Police said this is the fifth homicide Eustis has had in 5 years.
