It's the single largest donor contribution that Seminole County Public Schools has ever received and will be used to purchase school equipment and refurbish areas around the campus, SCPS said.
"I almost fell out of my chair," said Lake Howell High School Principal Frank Casillo. "It started out with some discussions, and I was asked what are some of the needs of the school?
Some of the improvements will include a new computer lab, a new Olympic-sized swimming pool and complex, artificial turf and a track for the football stadium, as well as equipment for enhancing the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs. The band and orchestra will also be receiving instruments.
Ground will be broken for the football field April 16 and work on the swimming pool will begin in May.
"I'm grateful and thrilled to receive this amazing gift. We can't thank the supporter and family enough. It will have an immensely positive impact on the students, faculty, staff and the community around Lake Howell High. Our students and teachers truly benefit from continued support from the community, even if it's something as simple as volunteering time and expertise," said Casillo.
Improvements are scheduled to be completed by December.
