Boy, 14, struck, killed crossing Orange County road ID'd

FHP says 2 vehicles hit teen

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 14-year-old boy was killed Wednesday night in a crash on John Young Parkway west of Oak Ridge Road in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Michael Rodriguez, of Orlando, died in the crash, which occurred around 7:30 p.m.

The FHP said a Cadillac was traveling north on John Young Parkway in the outside lane as a Dodge traveled in the inside lane.

Troopers said Rodriguez was attempting to cross John Young Parkway from the west to the east, west of the intersection. He crossed the southbound lanes and was standing in the median with two other juveniles, according to the FHP.

Rodriguez tried to run across the northbound lanes and traveled into the direct path of the Cadillac, troopers said. The FHP said the front of the Cadillac struck the teen, who was thrown into the inside lane. He was then struck by the Dodge, according to troopers.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.

Northbound John Young Parkway was closed Wednesday night north of Oak Ridge Road.

An investigation is ongoing.
