VOLUSIA COUNTY – The Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue personnel say there is erosion along Volusia County beaches in the wake of Hurricane Matthew.
The beaches are still closed to vehicular traffic. According to the release, staff plans to incrementally reopen beaches in high-usage areas first and then work outward to the remaining areas. It will take time to re-establish the traffic areas and to replace signs and other equipment.

The beaches are open to pedestrians but lifeguards are flying the double red flag and are urging people not to go into the water because of possible debris that could cause severe injuries due to metal roof pieces and other construction materials. High rip currents are also expected during this time.
The Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue asks residents to please be patient during this re-build.
