DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Deputies found drugs and guns during a Thursday morning raid of a suspected Daytona Beach drug house, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
The East Volusia Narcotics Task Force and the Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT Team executed a search warrant at 712 S. Beach Street at 6:30 a.m.
"The inside of the house, they tore it up,” neighbor Larry Lutz said. “ It's upside-down (and) everything.”
Authorities said that the man and woman they were looking for weren't home, but that they did find the hashish the suspects are accused of manufacturing.
Officers seized 42 grams of hashish, 10 grams of marijuana, two amphetamine pills, components of a hash extraction lab and two handguns, according to a news release.
"I was surprised," Lutz said. "He's a pretty quiet guy."
Deputies said the people involved will be charged with manufacture of hashish, possession of hashish with intent to sell, possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule II substance and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Lutz said he helped clean up the mess while neighbors searched for the couple's dog, who escaped during the raid.
"They seemed like nice people. We'd see them every morning, walking their dogs and stuff, and you just never know," neighbor Donnie Chamberlain said.
Chamberlain said the noise startled him and his wife this morning.
"It was a big boom, and I just thought something had dropped," Carol Chamberlain said. "I didn't know what it was, electrical power or whatever."
The couple have lived on the street for 13 years and have never experienced something like this before.
"I've been here for almost 20 years now and I've never had crazy stuff like this going on," Lutz said. "If you want to buy my house, I'll sell it to you in a heartbeat."
Deputies said that once they find the couple who live in the house, the pair could be facing a slew of charges, including manufacture of hashish and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
