Teen accidentally shoots himself after Orange County robbery, cops say

3 arrested on armed robbery charges

ORLANDO, Fla. – One of three teenagers suspected in an armed robbery early Wednesday at an Orange County apartment complex apparently shot himself during his getaway, deputies said.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said an 18-year-old man reported at 12:48 a.m. that he had been shot in a drive-by at the Royal Palms West Apartments in Orlando.

Deputies said they found two robbery victims at the complex, and their descriptions of the assailants matched the man who claimed that he had been shot. Items belonging to the robbery victims were found on the man who was shot and on two others, deputies said.

"At this time, it appears that the injured suspect shot himself while leaving the scene of the robbery with his accomplices," the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The man who shot himself was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The trio will be arrested on armed robbery charges.

None of the robbery victims were injured.
