Woman, 53, dies in Ocala house fire, deputies say

OCALA, Fla. – Officials are investigating a house fire in Marion County that left one person dead Friday morning, deputies said.

Fire rescue crews responded to a home on Bahia Trace Course in Ocala around 10:45 a.m., after receiving a call about the fire, the Sheriff's Office said.

Officials said the caller told 911 that when she entered the door, heavy smoke started rolling out, and that her mother was still inside the home.

Marion County Fire Rescue crews escorted the woman who called 911 and her children away from the home as they worked to put out the fire, officials said. Crews said they removed a 53-year-old woman from inside the home within three minutes. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said.

Crews called the fire under control at 10:55 a.m., but the cause of the fire remains under investigation, fire officials said.  

Foul play is not suspected as the cause of fire, deputies said.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office is investigating the woman's cause of death.
