SANFORD, Fla. – The ex-boyfriend of the late Bobbi Kristina Brown was granted bond during his first appearance Sunday morning in Seminole County.
Nick Gordon was arrested Saturday after his girlfriend walked into the Sanford Police Department to tell police she had been beaten by Gordon. He was booked into the Seminole County Jail and is facing charges of domestic battery and false imprisonment.
A judge granted Gordon a $15,000 bond for the kidnapping and false imprisonment charge and an additional $500 for the domestic battery charge.
Gordon was also ordered to wear a GPS monitor and is not allowed to have any contact the girlfriend. The judge said Gordon is not allowed to return to the home where the woman said the alleged battery took place. Gordon tried to tell the judge that it was his own home and that the girlfriend does not live there.
"We'll have to determine that at a later date," the judge responded.
Gordon's girlfriend told police the incident took place early Saturday. According to the arrest report, they had been at Duffy's Sports Bar in Sanford to watch Friday night's basketball game.
They went home and got into an argument because he thought she was trying to pick up his friend at the bar, according to the arrest report. She said they fought from after midnight to 7 a.m.
She said Gordon hit her in the head with a closed fist, the arrest report said.
Sanford police arrested Gordon at a local clubhouse near their residence.
Last year, Gordon was ordered to pay $36 million to the estate of his late girlfriend Bobbi Kristina Brown, the only child of the late Whitney Houston and singer Bobby Brown.
He was found legally responsible for Brown's death after she was found unresponsive in the bathtub of an Atlanta home the couple shared on January 31, 2015.
She remained in a coma until she died six months later.
An autopsy declared that drug intoxication and immersion in water were the cause of the pneumonia and brain damage that ultimately led to her death.
Gordon has not been charged criminally in the case. He failed to appear for two hearings in the civil case against him regarding Brown's death, and her family won by default.
The ruling forces Gordon to pay any of his future earnings to the estate of Brown.
Gordon's next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 1.
