BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – A Brooksville couple is recovering after suffering from carbon monoxide from their running generator, according to Hernando County Fire Rescue.
First responders were called to a home on Paul Drive at 9:52 a.m. and found a husband and wife who said they were feeling ill.

The victims told officials that they had a generator outside the home in a breezeway.
Fire fighters encountered fumes when they entered the home and used gas meters to confirm a dangerously high level of carbon monoxide, a news release said.
The couple was taken to a local hospital for further treatment.
With more than 1.5 million Floridians without power as of Friday afternoon, officials are urging residents to stay safe when using generators to energize their homes. The state has seen several carbon monoxide-related deaths since Hurricane Irma swept through the area.
