Commissioners elected to the city commission serve three-year terms and must live within their districts. Longwood commission seats for Districts 1, 2 and 4 are up for election in 2017.

Voters can cast their ballots Tuesday at the Longwood Community Building at 200 West Warren Avenue from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On this year's ballot for the Longwood District 4 seat are incumbent Mark Weller and former WWE wrestler Matt Morgan.

Matt Morgan, former WWE wrestler

Morgan has lived in Longwood for five years. He retired from professional wresting about three years ago and now works as a medical sales representative.

The 7-foot-tall Morgan is running on a platform dedicated to public safety initiatives and Longwood business growth.

Orlando Sentinel political columnist Scott Maxwell made an unprecedented endorsement last week for the “American Gladiator.”

“It’s not just Matt’s past as a wrestler that caught my attention,” Maxwell wrote. “It’s that he is running an earnest campaign, chock-full of issues — and (our main focus) that he is getting attacked by a shady, out-of-town political committee.”

Mark Weller, incumbent and business owner

Mark Weller has held the District 4 commission seat since 2014. Weller has lived in Longwood for 40 years and was a building and roofing contractor before opening Weller Infrared Services. Prior to election to the District 4 seat, Weller served on the Longwood Charter Review Committee.

Weller called the last three years in his district “very productive,” citing the completion of Reiter Park coming up and new grant-funded street lighting.

In his next term, Weller said he would like to attract new business to Longwood through infrastructure improvements and support development opportunities downtown.

Weller is also running on the fact that he is an opponent of expanding gambling operations by the Sanford-Orlando Kennel Club.
