MELBOURNE, Fla. – A child died Friday evening after a vehicle struck him at a crosswalk in Melbourne, according to police.
News 6 partner Florida Today reported that the child was walking across the street at the intersection of Post Road and Sherwood Boulevard with his younger brother. That's when the child, identified by police as 11-year-old Gavin Imes, was struck by a truck hauling a trailer, police said.

A bypasser to the incident said Sherwood was closed to traffic in the area due to the crash.
Police said Gavin was flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where he died of his injuries.
"Traffic homicide unit is investigating the incident," said Sgt. Jeff Rau of the Melbourne Police Department.
The younger sibling was not struck or injured, police said.
