APOPKA, Fla. – An apparent argument between roommates led to a double stabbing Monday in Orange County, deputies said.
The incident was reported on North Lake Pleasant Road near Apopka at 9:23 a.m.
According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, it appears a woman, 58-year-old Paula Benson-Smith, got into an argument with her 29-year-old roommate. They said she stabbed him multiple times with a knife and stabbed his 29-year-old girlfriend.
Both victims were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where the man was in critical but stable condition and the woman was in stable condition, authorities said.
Deputies initially said both victims were women and that Benson-Smith was the victims' landlord.
Benson-Smith was taken into custody, deputies said.
Bill Francis, who lives nearby, said it's not uncommon to see altercations at the home.
"I’m not kidding. I’d say at least once a week there’ve been officers there," Francis said.
No other details have been released.
Officials from the Orange County Sheriff's Office told News 6 they've been called to the home 34 times since last August, mostly for verbal arguments. They were also called out for a burglary, a few more trespassing calls, an aggravated battery and a few calls for assaults, according to sheriff's deputies.
Neighbors said a week and a half ago, a car parked in the driveway with glass shattered was a result of fighting at the home.
"Her and the guy were fighting. And she’s like, 'Stop,' and they’re fighting over the shovels and they’re hitting cars and each other and this went on for 10 minutes," Francis said.
There's a church right across from the home.
Now as investigators work to find a motive, residents say they are hoping the cycle of crime here at the home will stop.
Daniel Matamoros lives nearby and, like many of his neighbors, said he’s not too shocked to hear of more crime at the home.
"There’s so much traffic in and out over there, it’s like 'who lives here?'" Matamoros said.
