ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida drivers who use the toll-by-plate system will soon be billed for more than four months' of backlogged tolls and they will have until February to pay off that invoice.

The Florida Department of Transportation on Friday announced that those drivers, who have not been billed for tolls since SunPass went down for maintenance in June, will receive invoices beginning in November.

Fines or penalties will be waived as long as the driver pays off the invoice by Feb. 28, 2019.

"It wouldn’t be fair to ask Toll Invoice customers to pay for backlogged bills in a one-time payment. That’s why the new Flex-Pay process will provide customers with much needed flexibility, so they can better manage their accounts. Customers should also know that during the Flex-Pay period, no fees or penalties will be assessed,” Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Mike Dew said.

The invoices will be sent through the mail with the option for customers to pay in full or in installments.

All bills for Florida Department of Transportation, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, Miami-Dade Expressway Authority and Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority will be combined in a single invoice.

SunPass customers who use a transponder began receiving bills for their backlogged tolls in August, but officials said they were still reviewing toll-by-plate transactions, which is why those users won't be billed until after the election.

When toll-by-plate invoices do arrive next month, users are encouraged to review those transactions to make sure they are accurate. Payments can be made by calling the SunPass Customer Service Center at 1-888-TOLL-FLA (1-888-865-5352) or by visiting a SunPass Walk-in Center.
