Are LED-light bars legal? Trooper Steve says treat them like high beams

I promise, that is not a UFO traveling behind you. Recently, we have seen a rise in popularity of aftermarket LED-light bars being installed on mostly trucks. Sarah asked “Are those LED light bars legal?”

Keep in mind these light bars are an aftermarket accessory, so they fall under whatever existing laws are already in the books. These lights are bright and while patrolling the road with the Florida Highway Patrol we treated them as an additional light on the headlight system, not to circumvent the headlights.

What does that mean? If your headlights are not on, your LED light bar shouldn’t be on. If you wouldn’t use your high beam lights then your light bar shouldn’t be used. That being said, treat your LED light bar the same as you would your high beam light option.
