Posey defeated his Democratic challenger, Sanjay Patel, 41, of Satellite Beach.
According to News 6 partner Florida Today’s editorial board, the two candidates found little to agree on during a recent political forum. Both had very different ideas for Florida’s health care, taxes, economy and national immigration policies.
Posey has lived in Florida for most of his life. He worked at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center until the end of the Apollo program.
During his time in the U.S. House, he has served on committees for science, space and technology and financial services.
During the last year, Posey voted yes on legislation that would criminalize abortions after 20 weeks, increase criminal penalties for people illegally in the U.S. who commit crimes and would withhold federal funds from local governments not following federal immigration laws.
Posey voted no on a farm bill that would provide funding for agricultural subsidies, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
