Woman crashes into building after being shot in Orlando

Victim in critical condition

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Police Department said a 28-year-old woman is in critical condition after a shooting Monday at the Windsor Cove Apartments on the 1400 block of Mercy Drive.

Police said the wounded woman was able to drive away from the scene but crashed into a nearby building.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Orlando police said officers found the suspect around 8:30 p.m. Monday. Omari Rodgers has been charged with attempted murder, according to Orlando police. 

A woman who lives at the apartment complex said she heard the noise outside her window. 

"When I heard the shots fired, I rolled out of bed. I actually fell out of bed trying to make sure I don't get hit," said the witness. "I heard sirens moments later. And so, it didn't take long for the police to come, but it took a while for the ambulance to show up."

The woman said she also saw the victim as she was treated by paramedics. 

"I seen her on the curb and she was, she wasn't bleeding real bad at first, but when she got ready to get in the ambulance, she bleeding real bad," said the witness. "I cried, that's sad. And a lot of times when crimes happen, it's people that don't stay over here."
