Deputies investigate shooting on Fairwood Way

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 40-year-old woman was struck by a stray bullet early Friday while sitting in her car at an Orange County apartment complex, deputies said.

The shooting was reported around 1:15 a.m. on Fairwood Way, but the woman drove to the nearby Southern Oaks Apartments off Silver Star Road to get help, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Later, sheriff's officials tweeted that the shooting occurred in the bike path east of Silver Pines Place and Fairwood Way and the bullet struck the woman, who was in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

A witness said he heard so many shot that he thought he was dreaming but woke up to learn that the woman had been shot.

An investigation is ongoing.
