Deputies search for man accused of robbing Kangaroo store

Man fled after receiving money from store clerk, deputies say

BARBERVILLE, Fla. – Volusia County deputies are investigating a robbery that took place at a Kangaroo store in Barberville late Friday night, deputies said.

Deputies said a man entered the store on U.S. Highway 17 South around 11:15 p.m. and demanded money from the cash register.

The Sheriff's Office said that the man did not show a weapon, but kept his hands in his pockets to imply that he was armed, and threatened to shoot one of the clerks if they did not give him the money.

Once the clerk gave the man money, he fled the store on foot heading towards State Road 40 and Highway 17, deputies said.

Deputies used a K-9 unit and a Sheriff's Office helicopter to search for the man, but did not find him.

The man was described as white, 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, and was wearing khaki pants, a dark-colored sweater, dark shoes and a hat, deputies said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office.
