Doctor killed in deadly head-on Seminole County crash

Doctor worked at Central Florida Regional Hospital for past 11 years

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on accident that killed two people, including a doctor, in Seminole County.

The accident happened at 1:50 a.m. Saturday on State Road 417 near Red Bug Lake Road.

Troopers said 30-year-old Noel Alvardo was driving north in the southbound lanes of State Road 417 for unknown reasons. Alvardo collided with 57-year-old David Briones head-on.

Troopers said both Alvardo and Briones were killed and the road was shut down for several hours Saturday morning.

Troopers did not indicate if alcohol was a factor in the crash, but said it is under investigation.

Local 6 has learned Briones was an emergency room doctor that worked at Central Florida Regional Hospital for the past 11 years.

Officials said Briones was on his way home from working at the hospital when he was hit and killed.

"All of us at Central Florida Regional Hospital are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague and friend, Dr. David Briones. Dr. Briones worked as an emergency physician at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford for eleven years, touching the lives of thousands of patients and family members as well as his fellow team members," said Wendy Brandon, Chief Executive Officer at the hospital. "He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Briones' family at this difficult time."
